No Obsolete Data in DENIC Database
If the owner data of a domain is not up to date anymore, then this is not due to technical inadequacy of the DENIC database, but to domain owners, who have not communicated their address changes. Statements to the opposite effect that have been made in a computer magazine are not factual.
The responsibility to keep domain data current lies with the domain owner. This is expressed very clearly in the terms and conditions of domain registration. However, if the domain owner does not comply and fails to inform his ISP, then he in turn cannot update the DENIC database, which is of course amply dimensioned to carry out all updates in the shortest time. Also the members of DENIC eG are compelled to immediately forward to DENIC changes to domain data, of which they become aware.
Domains, whose owner is insolvent and for which the ISP therefore receives no payments from the customer, are transferred to DENIC for further processing. They become available again for registration, if DENIC is repeatedly not able to reach the domain owner or his representative. According to the registration terms and conditions DENIC is not only entitled to delete domains, if the identity of the customer cannot be asserted, but will also effect this deletion.
