Experience IT Jobs with a Future - DENIC opens not only the Server Rooms for Girls
The domain registry takes part in Girls' Day - the Future Day for Girls on 25 April 2002.
Communication and information are regarded as the future areas of growth. A number of new professions has been created in these fields. Girls can get a first impression on the 2nd international Girls' Day, which DENIC, the German domain registry in Frankfurt, is a part of. On this day young women can learn about the daily activities in companies and public authorities.
Young girls between 11 and 16 (grades 5 through 10) can on April 25 persuade themselves that information technology is not a men's domain anymore. Computer scientists, software developers or network administrators - everywhere in IT more and more women can be found.
"Especially Internet companies offer young women a number of attractive job opportunities outside of their traditional occupations. We want to encourage girls to go for a career in this area. At DENIC already a number of female employees work in technical departments such as system administration. However, there could be many more, because these are interesting and many-sided occupations with outstanding future perspectives", says Sabine Dolderer, board member of DENIC and computer scientist herself, on the motivations of DENIC to take part in Girls' Day. Scheduled are tours and presentations of the various responsibilities at DENIC, as well as discussions with employees and demonstrations, where the visitors can play an active part.
Girls who are interested to participate can register until 19 April 2002, at DENIC eG under the phone number 069-27235-0 or via e-mail to girlsday@denic.de. The number of participants is limited. The event lasts until early afternoon, it is possible to acquire an exemption from classes for that day. More information is available under www.denic.de, www.girls-day.de and www.girls-day-hessen.de.
