German Domain Names break three Million Barrier
The number of Internet domains with the extension ".de" will surpass three million this week-end. Every month the central German registry DENIC in Frankfurt registers about 200,000 new domains. Especially the number of domains, which are registered by private persons, is increasing year after year. While in the mid-1990s most domains have been registered by companies, their share has decreased to about 25% by the end of 1999 (which is the newest analysis available). One of the reasons is likely the sharp decline in domain registration prices over the last years.
