Questions about IDN domains with providers as their holders

DENIC has been receiving an increasing number of questions as to why so many of the new IDNs have providers entered as domain holders and representatives of their customers. Contrary to apparent first impressions, it does not mean that DENIC members have acted because they had a direct interest of their own in the domains concerned. DENIC's research has revealed that providers find this procedure reduces the total volume of work for them. In order to be able to submit customer applications to DENIC as quickly as possible, they have found it easier just to change the domain and keep all the rest of the data in the application the same, rather than having to enter the prospective holder's data for each individual customer. It is only in those cases in which the registration actually succeeds that they then change the data for the new domains to that of their customers. DENIC is still very busy working through all the IDN applications that came in on 1 March, and so it has not been possible to process all the UPDATE jobs that have been submitted by providers. These should all have been submitted and processed in a matter of days.
